Emergency Medicine - Pembroke Regional Hospital
Detail:
Pembroke is known as the Heart of the Ottawa Valley. We have a strong sense of community here which has attracted most of our local doctors to stay. We enjoy the rural life with great access to the Ottawa River but we are also just a drive away from city luxuries as we are located just Northwest of the City of Ottawa.
The PRH ED is a community ED that sees your classic "bread and butter" emergency medicine cases, with approximately 30000 annual visits, we manage a wide range of complexity and high level acuity. Our ED core group is a collegial bunch! We are complimented by a mix of FRCP EMs, CCFP EMs and CCFPs with long history of emergency medicine experience. Our Emergency Department is divided into two zones, zone A is where you will see CTAS 3,2 and 1 patients and zone B is where you will see primarily CTAS 4,5 patients. During this Resident Provisional Registration Program you will be working in zone A exclusively.
In zone A, we have primary ED shifts that are only 7.5 hours long on weekdays and 9.5 hours long on weekends. There is overlap with other primary ED shifts to allow for appropriate disposition of your patients. In addition, most weekdays and weekends are scheduled to have "flow" shifts which are 7.5h/9h respectively. During these flow shifts you are not responsible for CTAS 1 patients, the primary goal is to keep the department moving and grooving, and you are always working alongside primary zone A ED doctors. We can have you do a flow shift to have you accustomed to the department before you do a primary zone A shift.
We are not offering the solo overnight zone A shift to provisional license holders at this time.
PRH ED is a telestroke center, we are on ORNG bypass for Trauma however if/when acute stabilization is required from the field, they will be transferred to our ED for management and we are a regional transfer site for psychiatry admission but not yet a form 1 facility. We have a supportive group of colleagues and specialists colleagues. We have a closed ICU staffed with an intensivist, we have IM, General Surgery, ENT, Obs & Gynae, Opthomology, Orthopedics, Urology, Anesthesia, Psychiatry all available on call. We are also supported by allied health groups that include Respiratory Therapists, Mental Health and Crisis Workers, and GEM nurses.
PRH ED is a rewarding ED to work in serving an appreciative community.
